Dana had good memories of his last session at the Launch Pad and requested a follow up lesson. We got out to the point on a pretty light wind day. I took the 2.6m and the 3.5m sail out to the point and after some time on the simulator Dana decided he wanted the easiest to use combination.
I put him on the Viper HD board with the 2.6 and he sailed off. Were able to chat on the BBTalkin headsets. At the beginning he was losing a bit of ground downwind. I decided to come out on the Sea-Doo, but as I got closer to him, it was obvious he was starting to make up-wind ground.
Eventually he made it back to the point where I switched him to the 3.5 m sail just so he could feel that. He actually liked the bigger sail more with the muscle memory he had redeveloped. He clearly had a good time and sailed back in just as the wind picked up even more.
I was able to get going on the 7m Duotone Slick on the North Seek 138L wingfoil board with the 2100 foil underneath. I did a few runs with some show off jibes by the point. After going out farthest on my longest run the wind dropped off quickly. In the chart it is clear that at 5:30 the wind shifted 90 degrees in 10 minutes and now was completely coming from the north. I was able to get up on the foil a bit in the now north wind!
Dana and Katie kindly offered over the headset to come and tow me back upwind. Having that two way communication is great. I mean I could have made it back, but wanted to join them for a post session debrief.
Dana was intrigued by the wing and enjoyed holding it in the north wind when I got back to the shore. We had some drinks and I look forward to the next time Dana and Katie come to visit!
