Timo had been excited to try windsurfing since I showed him the Duotone iRIG on the lawn at home earlier this spring. Having parents that met in Bonaire, he loves the water and surfing too. I taught his mom to windsurf 30 years ago, so I am excited to get him on a board and eager too!
There was a nice gentle wind out at the Launch Pad point so I took Timo out and we pumped up the iRIG together. He immediately wanted to hold it and play with it in the breeze. He was a bit sceptical about getting on the wobbly board out on the water though.
So I just went and sat on the board holding the light inflatable sail. Sure enough, a minute later he wanted to get on the board with me. I sat on the board and he did too. We got going and he didn’t want to stand up at first. But after we stared gently floating downwind - he was standing. I was especially pleased with his perfect stance. Front foot pointed forward and back leg bent, like a real windsurfer.
We sailed downwind toward the new Launch Pad dock and dad and Omi were watching and cheering. It was a huge success. I got a nice fist pump from him.
Timo also had fun checking out the construction Telehandler and our new front deck and going fishing with Katie.
Construction machines, SeaDoos, boats, fishing with cousins, windsurfing with your great uncle at the Launch Pad using the Duotone iRIG - This definitely answers the question “how do I get my child into windsurfing!”
